چکیده

A 35-year-old woman with ulcerative colitis was transferred to our hospital because of 2-day history of altered mental status and headache. Apparently, 2 weeks prior to the transfer she had been having increased nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. She was diagnosed and reported with extensive thrombosis of the intracranial venous system. There was thrombosis of internal cerebral veins, the superior sagittal sinus, straight sinus, and transverse and sigmoid sinuses with extension into jugular veins. There was also acute ischemia of thalami bilaterally. Homocysteine and protein C levels were normal. Protein S and thrombin levels were slightly low. Subsequently, Figure 1. (A) Sagittal MR venogram showing absence of flow through the superior sagittal sinus (white arrow) and confluence of sinuses (black arrow). (B) Coronal imaging demonstrates absence of flow in superior sagittal sinus (black arrow) and transverse sinus (white arrow). anticoagulation was initiated with continuous intravenous infusion of heparin.

A Flare of Ulcerative Colitis Accompanied With Cerebral Sinus Venous Thrombosis And Bilateral Thalamic Infarctus: A Case Report

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory and recurrent disorder that is characterized by bowel inflammation. Some patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) have acute, severe, and sometimes devastating intracranial complications that require immediate medical intervention. Cerebral sinus vein thrombosis is a rare but serious extraintestinal complication associated with ulcerative ...

Limb Loss Caused by Thrombosis led to the Diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis

Arterial thrombosis associated with ulcerative colitis usually occurs in the postoperative period with a good response to anticoagulant therapy and embolectomy. Our patient was a 14-year-old girl with ulcerative colitis who presented with bilateral pulsless extremities, which did not respond to medical treatment and embolectomy. Subsequent colectomy did not save her limbs. The repeated thrombos...

Superior sagittal sinus thrombosis 10 years after surgery for ulcerative colitis.

Cerebral vein thrombosis is a known complication of active ulcerative colitis. It is generally believed that panproctocolectomy ameliorates the thromboembolic and other systemic complications of ulcerative colitis. We report an unusual patient, 10 years post-panproctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis, who developed a cerebral sinus thrombosis. Physicians should be aware of the possibility of thr...

Pseudotumor Cerebri in a Case of Ulcerative Colitis with Sagittal Sinus Thrombosis

BACKGROUND Thromboembolic events are a known complication of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) especially during disease relapse, more commonly in deep veins of extremities and lung, and rarely as Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis (CSVT). CASE PRESENTATION We describe an 11 year, old male patient with 3 months history of Ulcerative Colitis (UC) who presented as pseudotumor cerebri due to superior...

Isolated cortical venous thrombosis and ulcerative colitis.

Aseptic cortical venous thrombosis is rare without concomitant dural sinus thrombosis. Ulcerative colitis is associated with both dural sinus thrombosis and isolated cortical venous thrombosis. We describe a 26-year-old woman with ulcerative colitis who had a spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage. An overlying thrombosed cortical vein was identified on spin-echo MR images and confirmed with angiograp...
